Rosia Mon­ta­na (Veres­pa­tak), Ro­ma­niaThe village and the mine with the same name "Rosia Montana" are located approximately 85 km north of the city of Deva. The mine complex extends over 21.2 square kilometers and is one of the largest gold deposits in Europe. Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. Basalt­säulen... Basaltsäulen sind erkaltete und erstarrte basaltische Lava. Die Erscheinungsform dieser erkalteten basaltischen Lava ist hauptsächlich von zwei Faktoren abhängig. Eruptierte Lava kühlt recht schnell aus zu einem zusammenhängenden Gesteinsgefüge, das je nach Temperatur und Gasgehalt als Pahoehoe-Lava oder als Aa-Lava erstarrt. Po­lari­sa­tions­mikroskop... ist ein spezielles Lichtmikroskop, welches linear polarisiertes Licht mit Polarisatoren erzeugt und analysiert. So wird die Doppelbrechung bei optisch anisotropen Mineralen deutlich sichtbar, aber auch optische Aktivitäten können bestimmt werden.. Es dient Petrographen für die kristalloptische Analyse (das mikroskopische Studium) der Gesteine, ihrer Minerale und ihres Gefüges.

Durchsichtige Minerale der Gesteine werden in Dünnschliffen (ca. 0,02 mm) oder als Pulver untersucht. Zu den optischen Eigenschaften, die in dem zu untersuchenden Mineral bestimmt werden können, gehört neben dem Brechungsindex oder den Hauptbrechungsindizes auch die Doppelbrechung (Birefringenz), welche mit Hilfe des Polarisationsmikroskopes im durchfallenden Licht bestimmt wird.

Wichtiges Zubehör ist der Universaldrehtisch mit Achse (u.a. 4-achsig) normal zum Schliff, Hilfs-, Vertikal- und Horizontalachse. Mit dieser Methode können selbst kleinste Kristallkörner von einigen hundertstel Millimetern, die in Dünnschliffen als durchsichtige Einschlüsse vorkommen, genau ...
