Min­er­al por­trait Baryt (in ger­man)In the late Middle Ages massive amount of Baryt which phosphoresced when it was gently heated, were discovered in Italy. This stone was named after its place of discovery "Pietra fosforica di Bologna" (phosphorescent Bologna stone) and was of great interest to alchemists. Although the name baryte has been assigned centuries later, it may be assumed that the Bologna stone is the first description in the literature. A portrait about this famous mineral by Peter Seroka.

Min­er­al Por­trait Flu­o­riteThe mineral portrait fluorit is based on the book "SEROKA, P.; 2001: FLUORIT - Daten - Fakten - Weltweite Vorkommen"; a detailed and exhaustive information on the mineral's characteristics, the crystal forms, crystal growth and the different aggregates and pseudomorphoses.

Special chapters deal with the fluorite deposits and global settings, the mining of fluorspar and ore processing; One chapter shows the development of fluorite collecting in the past and now.

The most comprehensive part of the book is dedicated to the mineral's worldwide deposits, describing the best known old, classic and modern occurrences in 96 countries . A great number of mineral and mining photographs accompany each chapter, showing the characteristics of most fluorites from a specific deposit.

Grube Häusler & Co. - Ne­bel­berg... Eigentümlich ist hier insbesondere, daß die ausgebildeten Flußspatkristalle ( es wurde bis jetzt fast nur das Hexaeder gefunden ), immer stark verunreinigt sind, während das kristalline Gangmaterial weit höhere Reinheit besitzt. Die Verunreinigung geht soweit, daß z.B. Kupferkies, Pyrit, Quarz oder Ton im Innern der in Intervallen aufgebauten Kristalle gefärbte Schichten bildet. Es scheinen hier erst die zuletzt in die Höhe gestiegenen Lösungen so intensiv mit Sulfiden verunreinigt gewesen zu sein. Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Über­her­rn... In Oberfelsberg angekommen, parkt man, der Hinweistafel folgend, in einer Seitenstraße. Dem Weg Richtung Burg laufend, erkennt man nach 10 Minuten zur Linken die ehemaligen Steinbrüche im Voltziensandstein. Die Werksteinzone steht hier mit zirka 10 m Mächtigkeit an.
