Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Felds­patDie Geschichte des Feldspats ist eng verbunden mit der Geschichte des Porzellans. Die alten Chinesen konnten schon seit der Steinzeit feine Keramik herstellen. Während der Chou-Dynastie (1122 - 255 v.Chr.) wurde im Gebiet um Sha-Hsing (Provinz Chekiang, einem Teil des damaligen Staates Yüeh) graue bis olivgraue, bei hohen Temperaturen gebrannte Keramik entwickelt, welche unter dem Namen Yüeh (oder Yüeh-Yao) bekannt und berühmt wurde. Diese Keramikgegenstände waren mit einer gelblichgrünen oder graugrünen Glasur aus Feldspat überzogen, welche als Vorläufer der bis heute hoch geschätzten Celadon-Keramik gilt. Fast 1.500 Jahre später wurden in der Sui-Periode (600 n.Chr.) erste Keramiken aus meist unglasiertem Kaolin produziert. Wan­ni­gletsch­er-Scher­ba­dung - Eine span­nende Steine-Geschichte...Während meines Studiums profitierte ich in besonderer Weise von den jeweils dreimonatigen Semesterferien. Ich verbrachte sie hauptsächlich im schweizerischen Binntal, wo ich bei dem einheimischen Strahler Andre Gorsatt quasi „ in die Lehre gehen“ durfte. Ich reinigte und formatierte Fundstücke, begleitete zuerst die Strahlerexkursionen, die Andre Gorsatt anbot und durfte in Folge auch eigene Führungen leiten. Es mag an meinem Habitus von einem Drittel Athlet und zwei Dritteln Pykniker gelegen haben, dass ich in der Hauptsache für die Familien- und Senioren-Führungen vorgesehen wurde... Min­er­alien­por­trait Rho­dochrositRhodochrosit dürfte aufgrund seiner auffallend rosaroten Farbe zu den ältesten Schmucksteinen der alten Welt gehören, was u.a. durch archäologische Funde von Grabbeigaben in alten äygpischen Gräbern belegt ist. Ob dieses Mangancarbonat bewusst oder gezielt abgebaut wurde, ist nicht bekannt. Sicher ist jedoch, dass die alten Ägypter Manganerze aus dolomitisierten Kalksteinen in der östlichen Wüste und auf der Halbinsel Sinai abbauten, wo mit Sicherheit auch Rhodochrosit vorkam und als Nebenprodukt zur Schmuckherstellung diente.

Bryce Cany­on Na­tio­n­al ParkEmerged as a product of erosion from water, frost and wind which has shaped the spectacular pillars (hoodoos) the Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the most spectacular natural amphitheater. The eroded Claron limestone in which also fossils are found, leaves the impression of a subtle army from limestone warriors. Named after the Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Bryce, the natural spectacle was 1928 declared as national park.

San Ti­m­o­teo Mine at La Union min­ing area, Mur­cia, SpanienGypsum needels and blue Baryte have made this mine known for mineral collectors. A recent report from Sept. 2012 shows that good finds are still possible. To visit this mine is relatively easy. The evacuation of the gypsum needels on the other hand is more difficult. The Ts­in­gys of Mada­gas­carOne of Madagascar's geological specialties are the so-called Tsingy: bizarre, at first sight hostile Karst landscapes, though form, due to the inaccessibility, a refugial area for some species. The word Tsingy means "walking one tip-toes" or "where one cannot walk bare-foot" in Malagasy language, an accurate description for the partially razor-sharp rock formations which can reach 20 m in height and with ends which can be as thin as pencils.

Best known and most impressive are the Tsingy of Bemaraha in the West of the island and the Tsingy of Ankarana in the North, both widespread Karst areas. In the North, as well, about 10 km south of the city of Antsiranana, one can find the Red Tsingy which have been washed out of the lateritic layer of earth.
