Rosia Mon­ta­na (Veres­pa­tak), Ro­ma­niaThe village and the mine with the same name "Rosia Montana" are located approximately 85 km north of the city of Deva. The mine complex extends over 21.2 square kilometers and is one of the largest gold deposits in Europe. The tunnel system in the underground is several hundred kilometers long and was used until a few years ago. Already in Roman times the tunnels had a length of 145 km.

Min­er­al Por­trait - REE - Rare Earth El­e­mentsThis is the most comprehensive synopsis related to the history, the mineralogy, the exploitation and the most actual economic and political resumé on rare earth elements and their minerals to be found in the internet. REE belong to the most important raw materials of the 21st century, which are used in a large number of key technologies. However, due to the fact that almost 97% of the world's REE are mined and produced in China, REE have become an ongoing political issue, mainly amongst technology providing countries like the US, Japan and Western Europe.

Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. And on the devil's pulpit no longer an evil demon is waiting for the agate collector, but other executive powers threatening with purgatory... a contribution by Klaus Schäfer and others (in german)

Felsenp­fad im Saarp­falz-KreisDer Rundwanderweg Nr. 41 der Wanderkarte des Saarpfalzkreises, beginnt an den Wasserfelsen, die im Sommer wie im Winter unablässig Tropfwasser abgeben. Geologen sprechen von einer Schichtquelle. Von hier oben genießt man den Blick über das Dorf und die Kirkeler Burg. Auf unserem weiteren Weg erreichen wir bald den Frauenbrunnen, eine weit und breit bekannte Quelle. Etwa 50 m oberhalb beginnt in östlicher Richtung der geologische Lehrpfad, entstanden 1983. Am Anfang des Weges wurde eine Übersichtskarte aufgestellt, die das Saarland, sowie angrenzende Teile geologisch umfaßt und die Fundorte der aufgestellten Steine anzeigt...

Do­naus­taufer Re­vi­erDie Flußspatvorkommen des Donaustaufer Reviers liegen am tektonisch stark überprägten Südsaum (Donaurandbruch) der böhmischen Masse. Es handelt sich um hydrothermale Ganglagerstätten, die entweder Kristallgranit I oder mittelkörnigen Granit durchschlagen. Ihr südliches Ende liegt in jener Zone, wo das Nebengestein bereits durch Kataklase geprägt ist. Im Norden werden die Gänge entweder von einer Störungszone abgeschnitten (Sulzbach II) bzw. vertauben knapp vorher oder aber sie gehen bei gleicher Breite in einen reinen Quarzgang über (Gänge des fürstlichen Tiergartens). Up­per and Low­er An­te­lope Cany­onBeim Antilope Canyon handelt es sich um eine in Jahrtausenden aus Navajo Sandstein heraus gespülte Schlucht, die durch ihre geschwungen Formen und Lichtspiele einen besonderen Reiz auf den Betrachter ausübt. Beste Zeit für einen Besuch ist Mittag bis Nachmittag, da dann das Beste Farbspiel zu beobachten ist. Ein Besuch sollte nur bei strahlendem Sonnenschein vorgenommen werden, da nur dann die farblichen Differenzen von violett bis leuchtendem Orange richtig zur Geltung kommen. Die unterschiedliche Lichtintensität im Canyon vermittelt den Eindruck von verschiedenfarbigem Sandstein...
