Stel­ten­bergIm Steinbruch stehen Riffkalke an, die stellenweise dolomitisiert sind. Aber es finden sich Bereiche in denen mergelige und bituminöse Schiefer anstehen, die auf geringe Wasserbewegung hinweisen. Bei angewittertem Gestein lassen sich als Riffbildner Korallen und Stromatoporen erkennen. Die Kalke beinhalten eine reichhaltige Meeresfauna, die typisch für den obergivetischen Massenkalk ist, und durch Uncites gryphus und Stringocephalus burtini als Leitfossilien geprägt sind. Grube Al­ter Theuer­dank„Es handelt sich um einen einfach gebauten Spaltengang von durchschnittlich 0,2-0,6 m Mächtigkeit mit deutlich ausgebildeten Salbändern. Begleitet wird der Hauptgang von einigen ins Liegende ablaufende, bogenförmige Nebentrümer, auf denen u.a. die Grube Alter Theuerdank gebaut hat. Über Tage ist der Ausbiss an Pingen und Schürflöchern gut zu erkennen. Wie Harnischflächen belegen, stellt der Reiche Troster Gang eine Abschiebung dar, wobei die hangende Scholle mit einem Versatzbetrag von wenigen Metern abgesunken ist. Er kann als eine diagonale Verbindung ("Diagonaltrum") zwischen dem Wennsglücker Gang im Norden und dem St. Jacobsglücker Gang im Süden aufgefasst werden.... TwinsThe study of twins starts due to the very first beginnings of crystallography as a science. Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

Min­er­al Por­trait Gale­naIt is not possible to write a chapter about the mineral galena without looking at the history of lead and silver to name two of the most important raw materials and materials of humanity. How long people processed galena as main ore for the production of lead is unknown. As lead inter alia used as an additive to various melts (e.g. to bronze and the salt-cementation process for gold extraction) one can assume that the properties of this mineral were known before 3000 BC. Other sources speak of a history of lead about 7000-9000 years BC back.

The Franken­holz Mine – A Hid­den Chapter of In­dus­trial His­to­ryFrom early tunnel construction in the 18th century to its final closure in the 1950s, the Frankenholz Mine in Germany’s Saar region was a key site of coal mining history. With ambitious shaft projects, its own cableway connection to Bexbach, and remarkable geological features – including fossil discoveries and natural oil seepages – the mine reflects both the rise of industrial progress and the dangers of underground work. Gas explosions, water ingress, and tragic accidents shaped the lives of thousands of miners. Frankenholz remains a compelling reminder of a bygone mining era.
