Bryce Cany­on Na­tio­n­al ParkEmerged as a product of erosion from water, frost and wind which has shaped the spectacular pillars (hoodoos) the Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the most spectacular natural amphitheater. The eroded Claron limestone in which also fossils are found, leaves the impression of a subtle army from limestone warriors. Gam­maspek­trome­trieBei der γ-Spektrometrie handelt es sich um ein relativ komplexes Messverfahren, welches als Ergebnis die gemessenen Ereignisse als Funktion der γ-Energie ausgibt. Dadurch ist es möglich, die im Messgut enthaltenen Nuklide mit γ-Übergängen qualitativ und quantitativ zu bestimmen. Für die Mineralogie ist es eigentlich die einzige, zerstörungsfreie Möglichkeit, die Aktivität und Nuklidzusammensetzung einer Stufe mit hoher Genauigkeit zu bestimmen (rechnerische Ermittlung der Efficiency vorausgesetzt).

Die hierzu benötigten Detektoren müssen also in der Lage sein, Ereignisse nach ihrer durch Wechselwirkung mit γ-Strahlung deponierten Energie aufzulösen. Da die Wechselwirkungswahrscheinlichkeit von γ-Quanten mit zunehmender Dichte und Kernladungzahl Z der Materie ansteigt, ist man bestrebt, für die γ-Spektrometrie entsprechende Detektoren einzusetzen. Up­per and Low­er An­te­lope Cany­onBeim Antilope Canyon handelt es sich um eine in Jahrtausenden aus Navajo Sandstein heraus gespülte Schlucht, die durch ihre geschwungen Formen und Lichtspiele einen besonderen Reiz auf den Betrachter ausübt. Beste Zeit für einen Besuch ist Mittag bis Nachmittag, da dann das Beste Farbspiel zu beobachten ist. Ein Besuch sollte nur bei strahlendem Sonnenschein vorgenommen werden, da nur dann die farblichen Differenzen von violett bis leuchtendem Orange richtig zur Geltung kommen. Die unterschiedliche Lichtintensität im Canyon vermittelt den Eindruck von verschiedenfarbigem Sandstein...

Sie enthält doch Stücke von einmaliger Ästhetik, von längst erloschenen Fundstellen oder größter Seltenheit. Das alles droht unterzugehen, weil nach mir niemand den Wert erkennt, der in den zunächst unscheinbar wirkenden Döschen steckt.“ Dieser Gedanke wird bei vielen Sammlern von Micromounts diskutiert. Dabei wird die oben genannte Befürchtung immer wieder geäußert. Weniger häufig wird eine andere Frage offen angesprochen, die aber dennoch viele Sammler bewegt: „Soll meine Sammlerleistung, ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens, gänzlich in Vergessenheit geraten?“

Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.
