The Ts­in­gys of Mada­gas­carOne of Madagascar's geological specialties are the so-called Tsingy: bizarre, at first sight hostile Karst landscapes, though form, due to the inaccessibility, a refugial area for some species. The word Tsingy means "walking one tip-toes" or "where one cannot walk bare-foot" in Malagasy language, an accurate description for the partially razor-sharp rock formations which can reach 20 m in height and with ends which can be as thin as pencils.

Best known and most impressive are the Tsingy of Bemaraha in the West of the island and the Tsingy of Ankarana in the North, both widespread Karst areas. In the North, as well, about 10 km south of the city of Antsiranana, one can find the Red Tsingy which have been washed out of the lateritic layer of earth.

Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Felsenp­fad im Saarp­falz-KreisDer Rundwanderweg Nr. 41 der Wanderkarte des Saarpfalzkreises, beginnt an den Wasserfelsen, die im Sommer wie im Winter unablässig Tropfwasser abgeben. Geologen sprechen von einer Schichtquelle. Von hier oben genießt man den Blick über das Dorf und die Kirkeler Burg. Auf unserem weiteren Weg erreichen wir bald den Frauenbrunnen, eine weit und breit bekannte Quelle. Etwa 50 m oberhalb beginnt in östlicher Richtung der geologische Lehrpfad, entstanden 1983. Am Anfang des Weges wurde eine Übersichtskarte aufgestellt, die das Saarland, sowie angrenzende Teile geologisch umfaßt und die Fundorte der aufgestellten Steine anzeigt...

Min­er­alien­por­trait Epi­dotDas Mineral Epidot ist vom griechischen Wort "epidosis" abgeleitet, was "Zunahme" oder "Zugabe" bedeutet. Die Deutung als "Zunahme" spielt möglicherweise auf die stengelig zunehmende Kristallform des Minerals an. Die Interpretation als "Zugabe" könnte auf die Tatsache zurückzuführen sein, dass es dem französischen Mineralogen René HAÜY erstmals im Jahre 1801 gelang, die beiden Silikate Turmalin und Epidot eindeutig auseinanderzuhalten und somit den Epidot als eigenständiges Mineral neben Turmalin stellte... Land­kreis Waldeck-Franken­bergDie Goldvorkommen im Landkreis Waldeck-Frankenberg gehören zu den klassischen Vorkommen in Deutschland. Die Goldgewinnung in dieser Region reicht bis in die Zeit vor dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg zurück. The Franken­holz Mine – A Hid­den Chapter of In­dus­trial His­to­ryFrom early tunnel construction in the 18th century to its final closure in the 1950s, the Frankenholz Mine in Germany’s Saar region was a key site of coal mining history. With ambitious shaft projects, its own cableway connection to Bexbach, and remarkable geological features – including fossil discoveries and natural oil seepages – the mine reflects both the rise of industrial progress and the dangers of underground work. Das Chibiny-Mas­siv auf der Hal­binsel Ko­laDas Chibiny-Massiv auf der russischen Halbinsel Kola, das eine Fläche von über 1300 km² einnimmt, liegt zwischen den Seen Imandra im Westen und Umbozero im Osten. Höchster Berg ist der Tchasnachorr mit fast 1200 m. Im Osten liegen die Täler der Flüsse Tuljok, Vuonnemiok und Maivaitajok.
