Min­er­alien­por­trait Epi­dotDas Mineral Epidot ist vom griechischen Wort "epidosis" abgeleitet, was "Zunahme" oder "Zugabe" bedeutet. Die Deutung als "Zunahme" spielt möglicherweise auf die stengelig zunehmende Kristallform des Minerals an. Die Interpretation als "Zugabe" könnte auf die Tatsache zurückzuführen sein, dass es dem französischen Mineralogen René HAÜY erstmals im Jahre 1801 gelang, die beiden Silikate Turmalin und Epidot eindeutig auseinanderzuhalten und somit den Epidot als eigenständiges Mineral neben Turmalin stellte... The Franken­holz Mine – A Hid­den Chapter of In­dus­trial His­to­ryFrom early tunnel construction in the 18th century to its final closure in the 1950s, the Frankenholz Mine in Germany’s Saar region was a key site of coal mining history. With ambitious shaft projects, its own cableway connection to Bexbach, and remarkable geological features – including fossil discoveries and natural oil seepages – the mine reflects both the rise of industrial progress and the dangers of underground work. Gas explosions, water ingress, and tragic accidents shaped the lives of thousands of miners. Frankenholz remains a compelling reminder of a bygone mining era.

Von den weltweit wenigen Fundorten (darunter Brasilien, Sri Lanka und Zimbabwe) sind die russischen Alexandrite die hochwertigsten, da sie im Gegensatz zu den meist weniger kräftig gefärbten Steinen aus den anderen Ländern ihre Farbe von einem intensiven smaragdgrün zu einem tiefen purpurrot wechseln. Die Originalfundstelle im Ural war nach mehreren Jahrzehnten Abbau erschöpft und nur wenige dieser berühmten Alexandrite tauchen ab und zu auf dem Markt auf. Neuere Funde stammen aus Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Tansania, Tasmanien, Indien und Myanmar (Burma), besitzen jedoch nicht den starken Farbwechsel der russischen Alexandrite. The Caucasus Mountains are higher, and the Urals longer, but both lie partly in Asia. The Alps were formed over tens of millions of years as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided. Extreme shortening caused by the event resulted in marine sedimentary rocks rising by thrusting and folding into high mountain peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Mont Blanc spans the French–Italian border, and at 4,810 m is the highest mountain in the Alps. The Alpine region area contains about a hundred peaks higher than 4,000 m known as the "four-thousanders".
