Dev­ils Tow­er - Ma­teo Te­peeDer Devils Tower (auch Mateo Tepee oder Bear Lodge) ist eine freistehende markante, säulenförmige Felsformation aus porphyrischem Phonolith im Crook County, im Nordosten von Wyoming, nahe der Grenze zu South Dakota. Seine absolute Höhe (über NN) beträgt 1558 m, er überragt die umgebende Ebene auf einem Sockel von Sedimentgesteinen um etwa 264 m. Seine Basis besitzt einen Durchmesser von ungefähr 300 m, am abgeflachten Gipfelbereich beträgt dieser etwa 120 m.

UV-Spek­troskopie an Uranyl-Si­likat­en... Für die hier vorgestellte Untersuchung wurden Spektren von Uranophan, Sklodowskit und Uranocircit aus der Literatur herangezogen. Bei den untersuchten Mineralien wurde nämlich festgestellt, dass auf dem gleichen Stück auftretende, andere Uranyl-Mineralien, die Messung verfälschen können, wenn deren Lumineszenz nicht räumlich sicher abgeblockt werden kann. Beispielsweise beeinflusste in einer ersten Messung die vergleichsweise starke Lumineszenz von Uranocircit die Messung an einer Uranophan-Probe aus Menzenschwand. Aus diesem Grund ist es sinnvoll, die Spektren weiterer potentiell auftretender Mineralien wie Uranocircit mit in die Untersuchung aufzunehmen, um bei der Bestimmung der Mineralien solche Einflüsse aufspüren zu können... The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.

In­clu­sionsInclusions are inside the crystal enclosed foreign materials like liquids, gases, hydrocarbons (oil, asphalt), sediment, NaCl, as well as other minerals or crystals. Inclusions can be a sort of fingerprint of the place of dicovery. Thus inclusions show us under which geologic conditions minerals had formed. This allows conclusions on the place of discovery.

The article deals with the different kinds of inclusions, her conditions of build, which minerals do often have inclusions and how they appear.

Min­er­alien­por­trait Azu­ritAzurit ist seit mehr als 3.000 Jahren bekannt. Schon die alten Ägypter seit der 4. Dynastie, Perser und die Römer verwendeten das pulverisierte Mineral als Augenschminke. Im China der Sung- und Ming-Dynastien, in der Ukiyo-e-Schule Japans, im präkolumbianischen Südwesten der heutigen USA sowie während des europäischen Mittelalters und der Renaissance wurde Azurit als wertvolles blaues Pigment in der Malerei und für Handschriften bzw. Miniaturen benutzt. Die blaue Farbe war im Okzident lange Zeit das bevorzugte Pigment, den Kleidern der Jungfrau Maria ihre blaue Farbe zu geben, bzw. Skulpturen zu bemalen. Da der exotische Lapis Lazuli als Pigment Ultramarin weitaus begehrter, aber auch dementsprechend teurer war, wurde Azurit gewöhnlich als Grundfarbe benutzt und Ultramarin nur hauchdünn ... Al­ten­berg Tin MineThe Altenberg tin mine is well known for its huge surface break left by the mining activities. Among mineral collectors the mine is famous as well for its unique Pycnite deposit, a variety of topaz occurring in massive columnar aggregates up to a length of 30 cm.

The mining started in 1440 and continued, with several ups and downs and some total shut-down periods, until 1991. The mining activities aimed for a plutonic granite body (350 to 400 metre in diameter and hydrothermally mineralized mainly with cassiterite and smaller amounts of wolframite, molybdenite, arsenopyrite, bismuth and others) and managed to extract a total sum of 37 million tons of ore. The huge surface break, called "The Altenberger Pinge", is the result of several roof collapses caused by excessive ore excavation and later on the continued drawing of caved material from the bottom of the fracture zone.

Collectible minerals were rare and small, so the Altenberg tin mine became never as famous as the Freiberg or Ehrenfriedersdorf districts, but its unique geology and mining technology made it quite interesting and worth a closer look.
