Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Grube Ro­land... Die Lagerung ist sehr gestört und uneinheitlich. Der Hauptgang ist vom Schacht nach Westen zu gespalten in zwei Parallelgänge, den nördlichen "Arnold-Gang" und den südlichen "Glückauf-Gang", nach circa 200 m treffen sich beide Gänge in einer Scharungszone (Trümmerzone) wieder. Auf der 52 m Sohle wird nach Osten hin ein 3 bis 4 m breiter Gang erwähnt. Die Gangfüllung, soweit man noch im eigentlichen Sinne von einem regelmäßigen Gang sprechen kann, ist so angeordnet, daß in einem verkitteten Haufwerk von +/- veränderten Graniteinschlüssen (z.T. weiss gebleicht in Salbandregion - kaolinisiert - oder grünlich verschmiert - nontronitisiert -) der Stinkspat in +/- großen Adern, Zonen und Häufungen angereichert ... Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Bro­ken Hill in Aus­tralienErste Expeditionen in die Barrier Ranges gab es 1844-46. Silbererz wurde auf dem Grundstück der Thackaringa Schafzucht gefunden. Patrick Green gründete die erste Mine "The Pioneer" 1876. 1883 fand Charles Rasp schwarzes Gestein und vermutete Kassiterit; also schickte er Proben zur Analyse. Darin waren Silber und Blei, aber nicht genug, um wirtschaftlich zu werden. Die Proben, manganhaltiges Eisenerz, stammten aus der Oxidationszone. Im Laufe des Jahres wurden mehr Proben entnommen, die Broken Hill zu einer großen Entdeckung machten.
