Ge­o­log­i­cal Por­trait - The AlpsThe Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, stretching approximately 1,200 km across eight Alpine countries from Austria and Slovenia in the east, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, and France to the west, and Italy and Monaco to the south. The Caucasus Mountains are higher, and the Urals longer, but both lie partly in Asia. The Alps were formed over tens of millions of years as the African and Eurasian tectonic plates collided. Extreme shortening caused by the event resulted in marine sedimentary rocks rising by thrusting and folding into high mountain peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Mont Blanc spans the French–Italian border, and at 4,810 m is the highest mountain in the Alps. The Alpine region area contains about a hundred peaks higher than 4,000 m known as the "four-thousanders".

Die Man­gan­grube Krett­nich... Erst knapp 50 Jahre später liegen wieder Nachrichten vor, und zwar Abrechnungen aus den Jahren 1782 bis 1791. Die damaligen Pächter waren die Krettnicher Einwohner Nicolaus Wiesen, Matthias Finkler und Johann Bathis, Ersterer hatte in den 10 Jahren 346 Rtl., der zweite 95 Rtl. und der letzte 146 Rtl. eingenommen. Hauptabnehmer waren Johannes Scherer in Scheuern, Pastor Anhäuser in Lockweiler, sowie Johannes Bördeler (Birtel) in Krettnich, die offenbar das abgenommene Erz auf eigene Rechnung weitervertrieben. Grube Al­ter Theuer­dank„Es handelt sich um einen einfach gebauten Spaltengang von durchschnittlich 0,2-0,6 m Mächtigkeit mit deutlich ausgebildeten Salbändern. Begleitet wird der Hauptgang von einigen ins Liegende ablaufende, bogenförmige Nebentrümer, auf denen u.a. die Grube Alter Theuerdank gebaut hat. Über Tage ist der Ausbiss an Pingen und Schürflöchern gut zu erkennen. Wie Harnischflächen belegen, stellt der Reiche Troster Gang eine Abschiebung dar, wobei die hangende Scholle mit einem Versatzbetrag von wenigen Metern abgesunken ist. Er kann als eine diagonale Verbindung ("Diagonaltrum") zwischen dem Wennsglücker Gang im Norden und dem St. Jacobsglücker Gang im Süden aufgefasst werden.... The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.

Chessy-les-MinesUnter den klassischen Fundstellen für Azurit nimmt die Kupfererzlagerstätte Chessy-les-Mines nordwestlich von Lyon eine hohen Stellenwert ein. Diese Azurite sind unter Sammlern als "Chessylith" bekannt. Erst seit einigen Jahren kommen aus China Stufen auf den Sammlermarkt, die an die Stücke aus Chessy in etwa heranreichen. Chessy-Azurite besitzen bei Sammlern einen mindestens ebenso hohen Stellenwert wie Stücke aus Tsumeb, sind aber seltener und, in guter Qualität, unbezahlbar geworden. Funde werden, in bescheidenem Ausmaß, noch in den alten Halden getätigt. Die Größe der heute noch zu findenden Stücke haben in etwa den Durchmesser von Haselnüssen. Die Halden befinden sich in Privatbesitz und die Suche ist auf einen französischen Sammlerkreis begrenzt. Selten tauchen auf Börsen kleinere Stücke auf und Besitzer von Chessylithen trennen sich ...
