Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Kün­stliche Kris­talle - Ko­rundorundsynthesen finden sich im Handel als Schmelzbirnen, in der Regel der Länge nach gespalten sind, um die inneren Spannungen im Kristall zu lösen. Sie besitzen einen kreisrunden Querschnitt. Ab und an erkennt man im Querschnitt auch eine trigonale Symmetrie. Wird das Material durch Tempern von den Spannungen befreit, sind die Korundbirnen komplett und im Querschnitt rund oder eher abgerundet dreiseitig. Synthetische Spinellbirnen sind in der Regel komplett und besitzen einen annähernd quadratischen, aber abgerundeten Querschnitt. In der Nähe des Keimes finden selten abgerundete Oktaederflächen. TwinsThe study of twins starts due to the very first beginnings of crystallography as a science. Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

Die Lithothek der Münch­en­er Mi­cro­moun­ter„Was soll nur aus meiner Micromount-Sammlung werden, wenn ich selbst einmal nicht mehr sammeln kann? Sie enthält doch Stücke von einmaliger Ästhetik, von längst erloschenen Fundstellen oder größter Seltenheit. Das alles droht unterzugehen, weil nach mir niemand den Wert erkennt, der in den zunächst unscheinbar wirkenden Döschen steckt.“ Dieser Gedanke wird bei vielen Sammlern von Micromounts diskutiert. Dabei wird die oben genannte Befürchtung immer wieder geäußert. Weniger häufig wird eine andere Frage offen angesprochen, die aber dennoch viele Sammler bewegt: „Soll meine Sammlerleistung, ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens, gänzlich in Vergessenheit geraten?“
