Min­er­alien­por­trait GoethitAuf den ersten Blick erscheint es ungewöhnlich, gleichzeitig etwas über ein anerkanntes Mineral wie Goethit und über seine berühmten, jedoch nicht als Mineralspezies akzeptierten Abkömmlinge Limonit, Ocker und Raseneisenerz, sowie einige seltenere Varianten der limonitischen Familie, ja selbst über Gesteine zu lesen. Auf den zweiten Blick erkennt man jedoch, dass in diesem Portrait der Versuch unternommen wird, einmal der Tradition der bekannten Lehrbücher zu folgen, welche Goethit und Limonit wegen ihrer Verwandschaft zumeist gemeinsam betrachten, andererseits dem Mineraliensammler entgegenzukommen, für welchen Limonit - ob Gemisch, Gemenge oder Gestein - seit eh und je zu den eigenständigen Mineralien zählt... The word pyrite is derived from the Greek "pyrites lithos" (derived pyr = fire and lithos = stone) and describes a characteristic of the mineral, when rubbing against steel or flint (flint) to generate sparks. Emeralds, aquamarines, heliodors and morganites were and are used for the manufacture of jewelry because of their beauty. The common beryl is the main source of the metal beryllium; 80 % of beryllium ore is mined in the United States. The largest known crystal reached a length of 18 m.

Gold­gräber­dorf... Schon die Taurisker und insbesondere die Pisontier, Bewohner des ehemaligen Mittel-Norikum, wussten um die reichern Goldadern und verlegten sich auf die Ausbeutung derselben so wie auf die Goldwäscherei in den Flüssen und Bächen. Die Armuth des Landes machte den Bergbau zu einer ihrer Haupterwerbsquellen. Bei dem Umstande, als viele der Erzgänge edel zu Tage ausbeissen, auch oft blos nur aus einer lehmigen goldhaltigen Masse (Besteg) bestanden, die mit den primitivsten Werkzeugen gewonnen werden konnte, war die Bearbeitung leicht. Sowohl in Kärnten als in Salzburg kann man mehrere in Schrammarbeit getriebene Stollen sehen, die mit Sicherheit entweder aus jener Zeitperiode oder der darauffolgenden unter den Römern herrühren.
