Felsenp­fad im Saarp­falz-KreisDer Rundwanderweg Nr. 41 der Wanderkarte des Saarpfalzkreises, beginnt an den Wasserfelsen, die im Sommer wie im Winter unablässig Tropfwasser abgeben. Geologen sprechen von einer Schichtquelle. Von hier oben genießt man den Blick über das Dorf und die Kirkeler Burg. Auf unserem weiteren Weg erreichen wir bald den Frauenbrunnen, eine weit und breit bekannte Quelle. Etwa 50 m oberhalb beginnt in östlicher Richtung der geologische Lehrpfad, entstanden 1983. Am Anfang des Weges wurde eine Übersichtskarte aufgestellt, die das Saarland, sowie angrenzende Teile geologisch umfaßt und die Fundorte der aufgestellten Steine anzeigt...

Min­er­al Por­trait PyriteThe term used in the plural "pyrites" has often been misused in the past or in common for marcasite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and other yellow to brass-colored minerals. The word pyrite is derived from the Greek "pyrites lithos" (derived pyr = fire and lithos = stone) and describes a characteristic of the mineral, when rubbing against steel or flint (flint) to generate sparks. In prehistoric tombs pyrite concretions and unrolled pyrite where found, which supposed to be used for lighting a fire. (Article in German)

Sil­ver - min­er­al­o­gy, min­ing and his­to­rySilver and silver minerals are amongst the most desirabe objects since the beginning of mineral collecting. Silver wires and curls from Kongsberg and Freiberg are the coronation of each mineral collection. Beautiful pyrargyrites and proustites enhance each collector's heatbeat.

However, silver is not only the essence of high-end collecting but has contributed essentially to the history of mankind. Uncountable remain the millions of greek and phenician slaves, middle age european miners and millions of indios who have left their lives for silver.

Silver is one of the seven metals known since thousands of years, already been mentioned in the bible. Mountains of slag in Asia Minor, Arabia and on the agaen islands prove technologies to produce silver from lead ore; knowledges people had been acquainted with since at least 4.000 year B.C. Since the antiquity silver had been used to make finery and ornaments, however, most of this metal was used to stamp coins. The monetary system of many countries was based on silver; the one, who owned silver, was able to finance wars. One of the main pillars of power of Athens, Rome, the Phenicians, the church, the kings and queens of Castilia, the Austrian house of Habsburg and, last not least, of the Americans had been their control over the richest silver mines and the wars, which they made by paying their soldiery with silver coins.

Grube Häusler & Co. - Ne­bel­berg... Eigentümlich ist hier insbesondere, daß die ausgebildeten Flußspatkristalle ( es wurde bis jetzt fast nur das Hexaeder gefunden ), immer stark verunreinigt sind, während das kristalline Gangmaterial weit höhere Reinheit besitzt. Die Verunreinigung geht soweit, daß z.B. Kupferkies, Pyrit, Quarz oder Ton im Innern der in Intervallen aufgebauten Kristalle gefärbte Schichten bildet. Es scheinen hier erst die zuletzt in die Höhe gestiegenen Lösungen so intensiv mit Sulfiden verunreinigt gewesen zu sein. Außerdem sind die Kristalle meist treppenartig gelagert, was durch die stengelige Ausbildung der Unterlage bedingt ist... Ein Beitrag von Michael Kommer
