His­to­ry of min­ing in the Il­me­nau re­gion... As already mentioned elsewhere, mining in Ilmenau dates back to the year 1200. In 1216, Count Poppo v. Henneberg was enfeoffed with the Bergregal by Friedrich den II. At that time one had discovered mineralised steep copper slate near Roda and on the Sturmheide. Presumably, individual miners had been enfeoffed, who extracted copper slate and sandstone in accordance with the mining freedom. How long people processed galena as main ore for the production of lead is unknown. As lead inter alia used as an additive to various melts (e.g. to bronze and the salt-cementation process for gold extraction) one can assume that the properties of this mineral were known before 3000 BC. Other sources speak of a history of lead about 7000-9000 years BC back.

Thus from about 1240, the tin deposits (with the beginnings of subsurface mining also silver) around Ehrenfriedersdorf was mined. By finding rich silver adits in the 2nd third of the 15th Century the great mountain towns like Schneeberg (municipal law since 1477) and Annaberg (municipal law since 1496) was founded. Flu­o­reszenz von Min­er­alienDie Fluoreszenz wurde zum ersten Mal beim Fluorit - einem Calcium-Fluorid - beobachtet (daher auch die Bezeichnung). Fluoreszenz beginnt sofort mit der Anregung durch die Lichtquelle und endet auch mit ihr (im Gegensatz dazu ist Phosphoreszenz ein Nachleuchten). Unter Tageslicht-Fluoreszenz versteht man eine Fluoreszenz, die durch den UV-Anteil im natürlichen Licht verursacht wird und z.B. manche Fluorite unter natürlichem bzw. künstlichen Licht andersfarbig erscheinen lässt.

Ge­o­log­ic Por­trait - Weather­ing and Ero­sionWeathering is a continous process by which rocks are broken down and decomposed by the action of humidity (rain), wind, temperature changes, chemical agents, bacteria and plants. Being an integral part of the rocks cycle, weathering is the initial stage towards denudation, which results in general lowering of the land surface. An essential feature is that it affects rocks in situ; no transportation is involved. This is the factor which dsitinguishes weathering from erosion. The two main types of weathering are mechanical and chemical. Climate plays a leading role in weathering, whereas chemical weathering is almost absent in arid regions. Effecrtive freeze-thaw cycles are confined to cold temperate and permafrost climates.

Erosion is part of the process of denudation which involves the wearing away of land surface by mechanical action of transported debris. Main cycles of erosion are glaciers, wind erosion, marine erosion.

Daop­ing Mine... Das seit 1958 blei- und zinkerzfördernde Bergwerk Daoping ist unter Sammlern durch hervorragende, wenn nicht sogar weltbeste Pyromorphitstufen bekannt geworden. Die am Haiyang-Shan-Berg gelegene Mine wurde 2003 mit der nahgelegenen Yangshuo Mine unterirdisch verbunden. Während die Daoping Mine im Bezirk Gongcheng liegt, ist die Yangshuo-Grube Teil des Yangshuo-Bezirkes. Beide Gruben bauen denselben Erzkörper ab.
