Eigentümlich ist hier insbesondere, daß die ausgebildeten Flußspatkristalle ( es wurde bis jetzt fast nur das Hexaeder gefunden ), immer stark verunreinigt sind, während das kristalline Gangmaterial weit höhere Reinheit besitzt. Die Verunreinigung geht soweit, daß z.B. Kupferkies, Pyrit, Quarz oder Ton im Innern der in Intervallen aufgebauten Kristalle gefärbte Schichten bildet. Es scheinen hier erst die zuletzt in die Höhe gestiegenen Lösungen so intensiv mit Sulfiden verunreinigt gewesen zu sein. Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Al­ten­berg Tin MineThe Altenberg tin mine is well known for its huge surface break left by the mining activities. Among mineral collectors the mine is famous as well for its unique Pycnite deposit, a variety of topaz occurring in massive columnar aggregates up to a length of 30 cm.

The mining started in 1440 and continued, with several ups and downs and some total shut-down periods, until 1991. The mining activities aimed for a plutonic granite body (350 to 400 metre in diameter and hydrothermally mineralized mainly with cassiterite and smaller amounts of wolframite, molybdenite, arsenopyrite, bismuth and others) and managed to extract a total sum of 37 million tons of ore. The huge surface break, called "The Altenberger Pinge", is the result of several roof collapses caused by excessive ore excavation and later on the continued drawing of caved material from the bottom of the fracture zone.

Collectible minerals were rare and small, so the Altenberg tin mine became never as famous as the Freiberg or Ehrenfriedersdorf districts, but its unique geology and mining technology made it quite interesting and worth a closer look.

Hu­ber­s­tock (Hubr; Hu­ber open pit; Hub­ský peň)Bei der Fundstelle Huberstock (auch Tagebau Hubr, Steinbruch Hubr) handelt es sich um die Pinge eines im 16. Jh eingestürzten Bergbaus auf Zinn mit den umliegenden Halden (Beran 2006). Diese stammen sowohl aus dem geschichtlichen Bergbau, wie auch aus den Aktivitäten -untertage und übertage- in jüngster Zeit (20. Jh., Einstellung des Betriebs der Stannum 1991, Bergbau auf Wolfram und Zinn).

Auf der Fundstellenseite wird auf einen Beitrag des Förderbvereins der Lithothek verlinkt. Diese haben die Fundstelle in der Lithothek aufgearbeitet.

Schon die Taurisker und insbesondere die Pisontier, Bewohner des ehemaligen Mittel-Norikum, wussten um die reichern Goldadern und verlegten sich auf die Ausbeutung derselben so wie auf die Goldwäscherei in den Flüssen und Bächen. Die Armuth des Landes machte den Bergbau zu einer ihrer Haupterwerbsquellen. Bei dem Umstande, als viele der Erzgänge edel zu Tage ausbeissen, auch oft blos nur aus einer lehmigen goldhaltigen Masse (Besteg) bestanden, die mit den primitivsten Werkzeugen gewonnen werden konnte, war die Bearbeitung leicht. Sowohl in Kärnten als in Salzburg kann man mehrere in Schrammarbeit getriebene Stollen sehen, die mit Sicherheit entweder aus jener Zeitperiode oder der darauffolgenden unter den Römern herrühren.
