The Mu­nich Show 2025The Mineralientage München 2025 – The Munich Show once again showcased a fascinating variety of minerals, fossils, and jewelry. Although visitor numbers appeared slightly lower than last year, the fair remained vibrant and diverse. Highlights included the collector displays and the special exhibition on natural resources, while the fossil section was somewhat smaller.
Some visitors expressed a wish for more seating areas, opportunities for exchange, and more eye-catching advertising, yet overall the event left a very positive impression and remains a must-visit for collectors and families alike.

Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Aufgrund der Vielzahl ungewöhnlicher Formen, Größen und Zusammensetzungen wurden sie als Dinosaurier-Eier, Tier- oder Pflanzenfossilien (sogen. Special chapters deal with the fluorite deposits and global settings, the mining of fluorspar and ore processing; One chapter shows the development of fluorite collecting in the past and now.

The most comprehensive part of the book is dedicated to the mineral's worldwide deposits, describing the best known old, classic and modern occurrences in 96 countries . A great number of mineral and mining photographs accompany each chapter, showing the characteristics of most fluorites from a specific deposit.

Ge­ol­o­gisch­es Por­trait - Schie­ferDer Begriff "Schiefer" ist ein Polysem, welcher seit grauer Vorzeit (althochdeutsch scivaro (Holz-, Steinsplitter); mittelhochdeutsch schiver(e) (Stein-, Holzsplitter); mittelniederdeutsch schiver (Schiefer, Schindel) bis heute nicht scharf definiert und differenziert wurde. Allgemein und bergmännisch werden als Schiefer deutlich parallel angeordnete, in dünnen, ebenen Platten spaltbare Gesteine bezeichnet. Unter diesen Sammelbegriff fallen jedoch auch Tonschiefer, Schieferton, Tonstein, kristalline Schiefer, echte und unechte, kristalline und metamorphe Schiefer und viele, viele synonyme Schiefer-Wortgebilde und lokale Bezeichnungen- was nicht zu einer eindeutigen Definition beiträgt.

Nicht anders war (und ist) die Verwirrung in England, wo die Begriffe slate, shale und shist nicht deutlich getrennt wurden; im untertage Kohlebergbau hieß shale auch häufig slate. In Spanien heißt der für Dächer und Tafeln verwendete Schiefer pizarra, petrologisch aber equisto bzw. arcilla equistosa; im französischen heißen wissenschaftlich alle Schiefer schiste, aber der im Steinbruch gebrochene Schiefer ist ....
