Min­er­al Por­trait CalciteCalcite is one of the most abundant natural minerals. It is found in very different shapes, both compact as limestone as well as sinter in caves and in the crystalline state. But even in our daily life calcite is always present: in some regions it blockes water pipes as "chalk", we build our houses with it, it is in our food chain and without it we could not stand upright.

Calcite is not rare, but the varied mineral on Earth. The variety of forms and variations of the forms of calcite are unmatched in the world of mineralogy. By 2009, more than 800 Calcit forms have been described.

The min­ing area Marien­berg in the Erzge­birge Re­gionAfter the discovery of silver deposits in Christiansdorf - the now called Freiberg - over the time the mining was also expanded on the upper mountain. Thus from about 1240, the tin deposits (with the beginnings of subsurface mining also silver) around Ehrenfriedersdorf was mined. By finding rich silver adits in the 2nd third of the 15th Century the great mountain towns like Schneeberg (municipal law since 1477) and Annaberg (municipal law since 1496) was founded. Die Mi­nen von Ri­ot­in­to - Mi­nas del Rio Tin­to... über viele Jahrhunderte Rückgang des Bergbaus. Ab 1873 mit Gründung der Rio Tinto Mining Company koloniale Ausbeutung der Lagerstätte und der Menschen durch Engländer; nachdem das Vorkommen fast erschöpft war, ging das Bergwerk 1954 in spanischen Besitz über. Seitdem gingen die Abbaurechte durch die Hände verschiedener internationaler Konzerne, zuletzt einer US-Gesellschaft, die jedoch nur an der Kupferhütte in Huelva interessiert war und die den Abbau einstellen wollte. Anfang August 1995 kaufte ein Konsortium aus einheimischen Bergleuten die Rechte, um ggf. aus den Schlacken aus römischer Zeit noch etwas Gold und Silber zu gewinnen, was jedoch fraglich blieb. Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. And on the devil's pulpit no longer an evil demon is waiting for the agate collector, but other executive powers threatening with purgatory... a contribution by Klaus Schäfer and others (in german)

Marien­schacht...Gegenstand des Unternehmens war der Bergbau auf Flußspat, Blei- und Zinkerz und andere beibrechende Mineralien, sowie deren Aufbereitung und Veredelung. Wirtschaftliche Hauptaufgabe der Grube war die Versorgung der Riedel-de Haen AG mit dem für die Flußsäureproduktion im Werk Seelze erforderlichen Säurespat. Die wichtigsten Abbaugebiete, in denen die Gewerkschaft Wölsendorf Bergwerkseigentum hatte, waren die Bleierzgrube "Marienschacht" in den Gemeinden Schwarzach ... Ein Beitrag von Michael Kommer

Hu­ber­s­tock (Hubr; Hu­ber open pit; Hub­ský peň)Bei der Fundstelle Huberstock (auch Tagebau Hubr, Steinbruch Hubr) handelt es sich um die Pinge eines im 16. Jh eingestürzten Bergbaus auf Zinn mit den umliegenden Halden (Beran 2006). Diese stammen sowohl aus dem geschichtlichen Bergbau, wie auch aus den Aktivitäten -untertage und übertage- in jüngster Zeit (20. Jh., Einstellung des Betriebs der Stannum 1991, Bergbau auf Wolfram und Zinn).

Auf der Fundstellenseite wird auf einen Beitrag des Förderbvereins der Lithothek verlinkt. Diese haben die Fundstelle in der Lithothek aufgearbeitet.

A recent report from Sept. 2012 shows that good finds are still possible. To visit this mine is relatively easy. The evacuation of the gypsum needels on the other hand is more difficult.
