Min­er­alien­por­trait To­pas... Der Erstere, der edle Topas, ist durchsichtig und durchscheinend, von starkem Glasglanze, und am häufigsten von gelber, besonders weingelber, Farbe, aber auch wasserhell, graulich-, grünlich- und gelblichweiß, oder Berg- und Seladongrün. Bei dem Sächsischen ist die weingelbe Farbe die herrschende und von allen Graden der Höhe; bei dem brasilianischen die honiggelbe. Die Übergänge ins rosenrothe, meergrüne, bläuliche etc. sind oft nur schwach, doch so merklich, daß man sie gewahrt. Er kommt gewöhnlich als vier= oder achtseitige Säule vor, die beim Brasilianischen mit vier, sechs auch acht Flächen zugespitzt, beim Sächsischen aber meistentheils mit einer sechsseitigen Fläche abgestumpft ist. Die Seitenflächen der Kristalle sind stets in der Länge gestreift; die übrigen Flächen aber glatt. Der Querbruch ist gerad= und vollkommenblättrig, der Längenbruch hingegen kleinmuschlig. The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.

Min­er­alien­por­trait Stib­nitDas Mineral Antimonit, ein Synonym für Stibnit, bzw. das daraus gewonnene Antimon, wurde bereits in der Bronzezeit, seit etwa 3000 v.Chr. als Zuschlag zu Kupfer verwendet, um Bronze herzustellen. Die Babylonier verwendeten es zum Dekorieren von Lehmziegeln. In China vor über 3000 Jahren v.Chr., in Babylon und Ägypten vor über 2000 Jahren v.Chr. und im alten Rom wurde pulverisierter Antimonit entweder als Puder oder, mit Ölen bzw. Fett gemischt, als Haar- und Augenbrauenfarbe sowie als Schminke (Eyeliner) benutzt, um die Augen größer erscheinen zu lassen. Diese Verwendung hielt bis gegen Ende des 19. Jh. in China und Japan an. In anderen Ländern, in welchen kein Antimonit vorkam, benutzte man Galenit als Schminke. Special chapters deal with the fluorite deposits and global settings, the mining of fluorspar and ore processing; One chapter shows the development of fluorite collecting in the past and now.

The most comprehensive part of the book is dedicated to the mineral's worldwide deposits, describing the best known old, classic and modern occurrences in 96 countries . A great number of mineral and mining photographs accompany each chapter, showing the characteristics of most fluorites from a specific deposit.

Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone.
