The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.

Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Min­er­alien­por­trait Va­na­dinitIn den späten 1790er Jahren (andere Quelle: 1801) entdeckte der spanische Mineraloge Andrés Manuel del Rio ein bis dato unbekanntes rötlichbraunes Mineral mit hexagonalen, fass-ähnlichen Kristallen im San Damian Firstenbau der Grube Lomo del Toro im Municipio Zimapán, Provinz Hidalgo, Mexiko. Aus seinen Analysen schloss er, dass dieses Mineral Blei sowie einen bisher unbekannten Bestandteil, eventuell ein neues Element, enthält. Er nannte das Mineral "plomo rojo de Zimapán" bzw. "brown lead" (rotes Blei von Zimapán; resp. braunes Blei) und sandte alle seine Aufzeichnungen über den Fund sowie Muster des Minerals an seinen guten Freund, Baron Alexander von Humboldt nach Europa, um diese Spezies weiter untersuchen zu lassen. Humboldt hatte Mexiko von 1804 bis 1808 besucht und befand sich auf der Rückreise nach Europa. Unglücklicherweise ging die Kiste mit den Aufzeichnungen und Mustern del Rios während der Rückfahrt Humboldts bei schwerem Seegang über Bord (Grund dafür, dass als Typlokalität des Vanadinit in manchen englischsprachigen mineralogischen Büchern "lost at sea" angegeben wird). - Ein Beitrag von Peter Seroka

Min­er­al por­trait olivine (ger­man)Olivine is not a separate mineral, but a member belonging to the forsterite-fayalite mixing series. Olivine belongs to the olivin-groupe whose end-members are calcio-olivine and tephroite. Forsterite is a magnesium silicate; fayalite an iron silicate. If commonly is spoken of olivine, it is usually a more or less iron-rich forsterite. The color of olivine is generally yellowish green, olive green to black. Min­er­alien­por­trait - CölestinWer Cölestin zuerst entdeckte und woher das Typlokalitätsmaterial herkam, ist nicht ganz klar. Offiziell wurde das Mineral 1781 vom französichen Geologen Dolomieu auf Sizilien entdeckt, andere Quellen sprechen von einer Erstbeschreibung im Jahr 1791, wobei das Originalmaterial faseriger blauer Cölestin von Belliwood, Blair County, Pennsylvania gewesen sein soll.

Das Mineral wurde bereits Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in England und Deutschland bergmännisch abgebaut, wobei der Hauptverwendungszweck die Restentzuckerung von Melasse und die Herstellung von Feuerwerk war. Zwischen 1880 und 1920 deckten die Gruben in der Avon Gorge bei Bristol in SW-England 90% des Welt-Cölestinbedarfs. Aus drei Lagerstätten bei Yate, nördlich von Bristol, wurde Cölestin bis Mitte der 1930er Jahre gefördert.

The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.
