The "Eisen­ham­mer" (iron ham­mer) to He­im­buchen­thal The former "Eisenhammer" (iron hammer) to Heimbuchenthal has to show a very interesting history. The hammer mill established at the beginning of the 18th century reached at the end of the 18th century in the possession of the family Rexroth under whose guidance the company came to the full blossom. The squires showed a high social engagement which was reflected in the reimbursement of the workers, but also in the enlargement of the entrance ways. In specially constructed schools up to 30 children were teaches on the hammer mill property. On one, from oaks surrounded cemetery the late squires and their members were buried. In 1891 the company was discontinued and the hammer mill was converted into a court estate. From the industrial monument all buildings except the great smithy are even today in a very good state.

Grube St. Ge­org (Reich­er Ge­org)„Den heutigen Befunden nach bildete damals ein einziger steil einfallender „Erzfall“ die Quelle für den kurzzeitigen märchenhaften Reichtum. Dem Ausstrich des Ganges folgen über Tage einige 4–8 m tiefe Pingen, die verbrochene Schürfschächtchen darstellen und bis auf die Sohle des St. Georg Stollens reichten. Das erst in diesem Niveau aufsetzende eigentliche Erzmittel wies eine streichende Erstreckung von kaum mehr als 50 m auf und reichte bis zur Sohle des St. Jacobsglücker Stollens hinab. Sowohl nach Nordwesten als auch nach Südosten ließen sich nirgendwo Fortsetzungen der Vererzung lokalisieren. Weitere edle Erze fanden sich auf verschiedenen flachen Nebentrümern im Hangenden des Hauptganges, oberhalb des St. Johannes Stollen im Bereich des sogenannten Backofens

Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Felds­patDie Geschichte des Feldspats ist eng verbunden mit der Geschichte des Porzellans. Die alten Chinesen konnten schon seit der Steinzeit feine Keramik herstellen. Während der Chou-Dynastie (1122 - 255 v.Chr.) wurde im Gebiet um Sha-Hsing (Provinz Chekiang, einem Teil des damaligen Staates Yüeh) graue bis olivgraue, bei hohen Temperaturen gebrannte Keramik entwickelt, welche unter dem Namen Yüeh (oder Yüeh-Yao) bekannt und berühmt wurde. Diese Keramikgegenstände waren mit einer gelblichgrünen oder graugrünen Glasur aus Feldspat überzogen, welche als Vorläufer der bis heute hoch geschätzten Celadon-Keramik gilt. Fast 1.500 Jahre später wurden in der Sui-Periode (600 n.Chr.) erste Keramiken aus meist unglasiertem Kaolin produziert. Peter Seroka has addressed the issue in several years of work and has written an up-to-date geological summary. He dedicated his work to the 15 th anniversary of Mineralienatlas. The work gives detailed information regarding the origin of deposits, the different types of deposits and their classification. Examples of economically important deposits complete the chapters. Provided that this comprehensive work would be printed it would be a volume of over 400 pages; here it is provided in its entirety, online. Thanks to Peter Seroka. (written in german language).

Wan­ni­gletsch­er-Scher­ba­dung - Eine span­nende Steine-Geschichte...Während meines Studiums profitierte ich in besonderer Weise von den jeweils dreimonatigen Semesterferien. Ich verbrachte sie hauptsächlich im schweizerischen Binntal, wo ich bei dem einheimischen Strahler Andre Gorsatt quasi „ in die Lehre gehen“ durfte. Ich reinigte und formatierte Fundstücke, begleitete zuerst die Strahlerexkursionen, die Andre Gorsatt anbot und durfte in Folge auch eigene Führungen leiten. Es mag an meinem Habitus von einem Drittel Athlet und zwei Dritteln Pykniker gelegen haben, dass ich in der Hauptsache für die Familien- und Senioren-Führungen vorgesehen wurde...
