Beryl - (Goshenite, Aqua­marine, Emer­ald, Mor­ganite, He­lio­dore ...)Because of its form, color and transparency, Beryl has always fascinated people. Emeralds, aquamarines, heliodors and morganites were and are used for the manufacture of jewelry because of their beauty. The common beryl is the main source of the metal beryllium; 80 % of beryllium ore is mined in the United States. The largest known crystal reached a length of 18 m.

This lavishly researched and very comprehensive portrait by the author Peter Seroka relates to history, name origin, causes of color, occurrences , paragenesis and the use of this mineral and its varieties. Subchapters with numerous photographs and drawings deal with the extraordinary beauty of the mineral. Min­er­al por­trait ara­g­onite (ger­man)Aragonite is a calcium carbonate, chemically identical with calcite. The mineral calcite, however, differs from Aragonite due to its internal crystal structure. While the crystal system of calcite is trigonal, the system of aragonite is rhombic. Dense masses of small aragonite crystals are difficult to distinguish from calcite, but they are larger, they show a distinct habit.

Bei der Masse der vorhandenen Literatur reichen die hier gemachten Angaben im Allgemeinen aus, um sich einen Überblick zu verschaffen. Unter den einzelnen Gruben lassen sich weitere Angaben finden und hoffe dem interessierten Leser und Sammler genügend Stoff an die Hand gegeben zu haben. In diesem Zusammenhang möchte ich mich bei den vielen Informanten bedanken, die mir schriftliches Material zukommen ließen und ihr Wissen näher gebracht haben und die mir zum Teil erstklassiges Stufenmaterial veräußerten um das Wölsendorfer Revier von einer Seite zu beschreiben, die es in dieser Form bisher nicht gegeben hat.

The Mu­nich Mi­cro­moun­ters and their Lithothek„What will be the fate of my collection once I will no longer be able to collect? There are specimens of unique beauty and extreme rarity in the collection, pieces that cannot be replaced since some localities are closed or have been obliterated. All this might be thrown away because not many people realise the value and importance hidden in these little unimpressive boxes”. Many micromounters are worried by these considerations and other factors. “My collection is an important part of my life and of my personality. If my collection dissapears, I too, will cease to exist without trace”. We, the Micromounters of the Münchener Mineralienfreunde, are no exception. Many times the future of our collections was subject of our discussions and conversations. Children and grand children are not always appreciative of their parents’ or grandparents’ passion.

Stel­ten­bergIm Steinbruch stehen Riffkalke an, die stellenweise dolomitisiert sind. Aber es finden sich Bereiche in denen mergelige und bituminöse Schiefer anstehen, die auf geringe Wasserbewegung hinweisen. Bei angewittertem Gestein lassen sich als Riffbildner Korallen und Stromatoporen erkennen. Die Kalke beinhalten eine reichhaltige Meeresfauna, die typisch für den obergivetischen Massenkalk ist, und durch Uncites gryphus und Stringocephalus burtini als Leitfossilien geprägt sind. Diese ist auch als Stringocephalus-Fauna bekannt. Neben den bereits genannten und anderen Brachiopoden finden sich dort auch eine Vielzahl von Korallen ... Ein Beitrag von Karl S. und Wilhelm W.
