Ge­o­log­i­cal Por­trait - de­positsDeposits are one of the most important topics in geology. Peter Seroka has addressed the issue in several years of work and has written an up-to-date geological summary. He dedicated his work to the 15 th anniversary of Mineralienatlas. The work gives detailed information regarding the origin of deposits, the different types of deposits and their classification. Examples of economically important deposits complete the chapters. Provided that this comprehensive work would be printed it would be a volume of over 400 pages; here it is provided in its entirety, online. Thanks to Peter Seroka. (written in german language).

Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago. The colorful desert hills, the flat mesas and shaped hills attributable primarily to Chinle Formation and are fluvial sediments, caused by water movement. Countless fossilized wood and tree trunks bear witness to a scrumptious earlier fauna.

Kün­stliche Kris­talle - SpinellSpinellsynthesen finden sich im Handel als komplette Schmelzbirnen, die ab und an einen annähernd quadratischen, aber abgerundeten Querschnitt besitzen. In der Nähe des Keimes finden sich selten abgerundete Oktaederflächen.

Im Gegensatz dazu sind Korundbirnen in der Regel der Länge nach gespalten, um die inneren Spannungen im Kristall zu lösen. Wird das Material durch Tempern von den Spannungen befreit, sind die Korundbirnen komplett und im Querschnitt rund oder eher abgerundet dreiseitig. Ein Beitrag von Klaus Schäfer

Not negligible for this reason, the idea or the concept of a twin crystal are often associated with a macroscopic building. Modern studies at the nano scale have shown that the formation of twins can occur at a very early stage of crystal growing. Based on these findings, it does beg the request to reconsider the formation mechanisms, and adjacency to the newly different categories. (Text in german)

FroschEin Geleucht des Bergmanns. Frosch werden diese Geleuchte in Anlehnung an ihr Aussehen genannt. Jede Zeit und jedes Bergbaugebiet hatte unterschiedliche Frösche. Es gab den erzgebirgischen Frosch, den westfälischen, den Siegerländer usw.. Die Montage mittels Hartlot geschah in einem Schmiedefeuer. Als Flussmittel diente Stroh. Die Besonderheit hierbei ist das Lot, auch Rotschlag oder Gelbschlag genannt. Das körnige Lot wurde mittels einer Tülle den Baugruppen zugegeben. Dieses Lot dient heute dem Fachmann als Beweis der Originalität eines Frosches.

Grube Al­ter Theuer­dank„Es handelt sich um einen einfach gebauten Spaltengang von durchschnittlich 0,2-0,6 m Mächtigkeit mit deutlich ausgebildeten Salbändern. Begleitet wird der Hauptgang von einigen ins Liegende ablaufende, bogenförmige Nebentrümer, auf denen u.a. die Grube Alter Theuerdank gebaut hat. Über Tage ist der Ausbiss an Pingen und Schürflöchern gut zu erkennen. Wie Harnischflächen belegen, stellt der Reiche Troster Gang eine Abschiebung dar, wobei die hangende Scholle mit einem Versatzbetrag von wenigen Metern abgesunken ist. Er kann als eine diagonale Verbindung ("Diagonaltrum") zwischen dem Wennsglücker Gang im Norden und dem St. Jacobsglücker Gang im Süden aufgefasst werden....
