Beryl - (Goshenite, Aqua­marine, Emer­ald, Mor­ganite, He­lio­dore ...)Because of its form, color and transparency, Beryl has always fascinated people. Emeralds, aquamarines, heliodors and morganites were and are used for the manufacture of jewelry because of their beauty. The common beryl is the main source of the metal beryllium; 80 % of beryllium ore is mined in the United States. The largest known crystal reached a length of 18 m.

Dev­il's Pul­pitActually, this is a picturesque place in a well-kept forest. Nevertheless, in the past, evil itself is said to have preached to the damned here from a large, solitary, towering rock spur. Today, the term Devil's Pulpit inspires one to play with associations, as do the drawings of agates found here. Their fantastic outlines, coupled with the unusual shape of the secondary rock, evoke images in the viewer that he would not have suspected in a stone. Grube Her­mine im Wölsen­dor­fer Re­vi­er... In dem Grubenfeld waren vor 1940 mehrere Kleinbetriebe tätig, die die einzelnen Gänge an völlig unterschiedlichen Stellen zuerst in Tagröschen und später mittels Schlepp- (tonnlägiger Schacht, d.h. im Gang abgeteuft) oder Saigerschacht ausgebeutet hatten. An keiner Stelle hat es allerdings, wie es bei allen anderen Gruben üblich war, eine Konzentration an einem bestimmten Standort gegeben und so kam es mit Hilfe der Reichsregierung zwischen 1940 und 1942 dazu, dass die Grube Hermine ins Leben gerufen wurde. Wenn der II. Weltkrieg nicht ausgebrochen wäre, weil Flußspat dringend für Rüstungszwecke gebraucht wurde, dann hätte es unter Umständen die Grube Hermine gar nicht gegeben und die Gänge wären von Grube Cäcilia und Grube Erika abgebaut worden. ... Ge­o­log­ic and min­er­a­log­i­cal ex­pe­di­tion through Namibia and the Na­maqua­landReport about a geologic - and geology of deposits excursion through central and southern Namibia as well as the Namaqualand bordering to the South and parts of the Northern cape in autumn, 2009., Amongst other localities in Namibia the author visited the tin deposit Uis, the explorations project Namib Lead near Swakopmund, as well as the important mines Rosh Pinah and Scorpion Zinc in the south of Namibia. In the Republic South Africa the trip led to the copper mining region of Okiep as well as the lead zinc mines of Aggeneys and, finally, to the Kalahari manganese ore districts of Postmasburg and Kuruman.

Konkre­tio­nen und Knollen ... Konkretionen wurden in den vergangenen Jahrhunderten oft als geologische Kuriositäten betrachtet. Aufgrund der Vielzahl ungewöhnlicher Formen, Größen und Zusammensetzungen wurden sie als Dinosaurier-Eier, Tier- oder Pflanzenfossilien (sogen. Pseudofossilien), extraterrestrischer Abfall oder selbst als vom Menschen erzeugte Artefakte interpretiert. Obwohl für all diese Fehlinterpretationen heute nurmehr ein Lächeln übrigblieb, gibt es immer noch Falschbezeichnungen, resp. unterschiedliche Begriffsdefinitionen, selbst (oder meist) in der geo-wissenschaftlichen Literatur. Pet­ri­fied For­est Na­tio­n­al ParkThe Petrified Forest is primarily a geological park, which owes its origin to the climate and geological events. It is part of the so-called Painted Desert and shows with its various layers a strange and impressive scenery. Characterized by erosion, it is a treasure trove of fossils. The rock formations show a chronicle of the past and give clues about the events of bygone days. In the park you can exposure rock strata until 234 million years ago.
