Die Mi­nen von Ri­ot­in­to - Mi­nas del Rio Tin­to... über viele Jahrhunderte Rückgang des Bergbaus. Ab 1873 mit Gründung der Rio Tinto Mining Company koloniale Ausbeutung der Lagerstätte und der Menschen durch Engländer; nachdem das Vorkommen fast erschöpft war, ging das Bergwerk 1954 in spanischen Besitz über. Seitdem gingen die Abbaurechte durch die Hände verschiedener internationaler Konzerne, zuletzt einer US-Gesellschaft, die jedoch nur an der Kupferhütte in Huelva interessiert war und die den Abbau einstellen wollte. Anfang August 1995 kaufte ein Konsortium aus einheimischen Bergleuten die Rechte, um ggf. aus den Schlacken aus römischer Zeit noch etwas Gold und Silber zu gewinnen, was jedoch fraglich blieb. Cop­per - one of the old­est me­t­als of mankindCopper was one of the first metals ever extracted and used by humans, and it has made vital contributions to sustaining and improving society since the dawn of civilization.
The metal and its alloys have been used for thousands of years. Copper was first used in coins and ornaments starting about 8000 B.C., and at about 5500 B.C., copper tools helped civilization emerge from the Stone Age. In the Roman era, copper was principally mined on Cyprus, hence the origin of the name of the metal as сyprium (metal of Cyprus), later shortened to сuprum.

The discovery that copper alloyed with tin produces bronze marked the beginning of the Bronze Age at about 3000 B.C.
Copper is easily stretched, molded, and shaped; is resistant to corrosion; and conducts heat and electricity efficiently. As a result, copper was important to early humans and continues to be a material of choice for a variety of domestic, industrial, and high-technology applications today.

Min­er­alien­por­trait WulfenitDas Mineral Wulfenit wurde - so die allgemein verbreitete Version bzw. der allgemein verbreitete Irrtum - Ende des 18. Jh. vom österreichischen Jesuiten (Abbé), Botaniker und Mineralogen Franz Freiherr von Wulfen entdeckt und von ihm in seiner berühmten "Abhandlung vom Kärnthnerischen Bleyspathe" im Jahr 1785 beschrieben und gezeichnet, obwohl es bereits 1772 eine Veröffentlichung des Siebenbürgener Mineralogen und Geologen Ignaz von Born gab, mit dem Titel: "Plumbum spatosum flavo-rubrum pellucidum" (von Annaberg in Niederösterreich). FroschEin Geleucht des Bergmanns. Frosch werden diese Geleuchte in Anlehnung an ihr Aussehen genannt. Jede Zeit und jedes Bergbaugebiet hatte unterschiedliche Frösche. Es gab den erzgebirgischen Frosch, den westfälischen, den Siegerländer usw.. Die Montage mittels Hartlot geschah in einem Schmiedefeuer. Als Flussmittel diente Stroh. Die Besonderheit hierbei ist das Lot, auch Rotschlag oder Gelbschlag genannt. Das körnige Lot wurde mittels einer Tülle den Baugruppen zugegeben. Dieses Lot dient heute dem Fachmann als Beweis der Originalität eines Frosches.
