This is the same kind of irresponsible sensationalist journalism as we have in the USA! Don't worry about "bloody" Nb-Ta in your "Handy", as the Congo is an insignificant producer of that metal... 99% comes from civilised countries. Exploitation of children in Third World countries is certainly a shameful problem, but it occurs across all fields, in agriculture and services much more extensively than mining. So worrying about Nb-Ta in your Handy is to be focussing on a very tiny part of a much bigger problem.

Embarak:
Hello@alfredo

It is contra-productive to declare critical voices to sensationalist journalism before you  see and discuss the report open-minded.

Hallo Alfredo!

alfredo:
The "sensation" I think isn't the part about the children but the part trying to make the Handy-Hersteller feel guilty for this. Just look at the titles: "Blutige Handys"... "die story" zeigt die erschreckende Wirklichkeit der Handy-Produktion."... usw. That's not sensationalist journalism?

Using the same type of logic, chocolate manufacturers should feel guilty because some sugar cane farmworkers were poisoned by pesticides. Mineral magazine publishers should feel guilty because some birds lost their babies when trees were cut to make the paper... etc, etc.... We would all spend every day of our lives feeling guilty for every item we consume. I don't want to give the impression that I don't care about these things, but I don't like the way it's being presented to the public.
