Please excuse my lack of knowledge of German. I have a question about a specimen I have that is supposed to be from a locality in Germany (Brunndöbra, Klingenthal, Vogtland, Saxony), and would like to post a few photos of it and see if anyone can confirm the locality. I don't speak or understand German. Is there anyway I can do this or can anyone help me please?

I had asked this question on the english site www.mindat.org and it was suggested I post here. The original thread and photos are at http://www.mindat.org/mesg-11-169721.html

Hello,
I think, it is not from Brunndöbra, maybe from USA.

Magma Mine / Pinal County / Arizona / USA

Check this one for Baryt. It should fit.

Thanks...yes there are some specimens at the Magma mine that have crystals that look just like this. I wonder where the label came from...

Hi Howard,

I think the specimen may well be from Vogtland, from Zobes to be precise. A couple of years ago I saw similar Barytes in the collection of a friend of mine in Vogtland, although he also had some specimens with particularly dark Barytes from Brunndöbra.....the specimen can be from either localities.
Have a look at Jörg Kasiske's site: http://home.arcor.de/kristalldruse/ choose "Ortsregister" on the left side of the start page and then choose Zobes in the locality listing. Scroll down and you'll see a comparable Baryte to yours.

Cheers

Harjo

@Harjo,

No, the only Barytes in this Form/Formation/Edjucation came for sure from ZOBES and BERGEN near ZOBES, but not in/on this Matrix.

@ Harjo,

yes i have seen it already. But the Piece from Howard´s Question is not from ZOBES and less than ever from BRUNNDÖBRA.

Thank you for all the useful comments. The picture from Arkenstone is particularly useful...as the crystals seem virtually identical to mine. I am leaning towards the specimen to being from Magma, though I guess I will always have to list it as not being 100% sure of its locality.

OK I see, you know that better than I do, I'm not an expert when it comes to the minerals of the Vogtland. I just recall seeing Barytes similar in shape and colour in a collection in Markneukirchen. But I don't remember what the matrix looked like.

Beste Grüsse aus Holland ;-)
